Diagnosing Allergies

The Food Challenge Test involves the elimination of specific Foods from the diet and then rechallenging with those same Foods, observing the reinduction of Allergy symptoms.  There is some controversy regarding the length of time that a food should be eliminated from the diet before rechallenging.  Some specialists recommend total elimination of a specific Food for at least three weeks.  Others recommend four to ten days of Food elimination prior to rechallenge.  A disadvantage of this method is that it requires the patient to come into contact with the suspected allergen.
