Atrioventricular Node

The Atrioventricular Node is a mass of modified Heart Muscle located in the lower middle part of the right atrium of the Heart.

Cardiovascular System

 The AV Node receives impulses to contract from the Sinoatrial Node (SA Node):

 If the AV Node does not receive its expected input from the SA Node, it can generate its own Heart Rhythm at the rate of 15-40 beats per minute.

Nervous System

 The AV Node is under the influence of the Parasympathetic Nervous System - it receives Nerve Impulses via the Vagus Nerve:

 Parasympathetic Nerve Impulses serve to slow down (or sometimes halt) Heartbeat.

Nucleic Compounds

 Adenosine may alleviate Tachycardia by decreasing conduction through the Atroventricular Node.
