Serum Unsaturated Vitamin B12 Binding Capacity
The methodology for this test is via radioimmunoassay.
An excess amount of 57Co-labeled Vitamin B12 is incubated with the test serum, allowing the serum Vitamin B12 binders to become saturated. Unbound Vitamin B12 is removed by absorption with albumin-coated charcoal and centrifugation. The counts remaining in the supernatant are directly related to the unsaturated Vitamin B12 binding capacity.
