Alpha-Tocopherol may Interfere with these Substances
Vitamins
When Alpha-Tocopherol is used as a supplement in isolation (i.e. without concurrent supplementation with other forms of Vitamin E) it may cause the depletion of Delta-Tocopherol. [1]
When Alpha-Tocopherol is used as a supplement in isolation (i.e. without concurrent supplementation with other forms of Vitamin E) it may cause the depletion of Gamma-Tocopherol. [2]
Bioavailability [3]
Topical Bioavailability
Alpha-Tocopherol has been demonstrated to be well-absorbed when applied topically to the Skin.
Forms of Alpha-Tocopherol
D-Alpha-Tocopherol
D-Alpha-Tocopherol is the most commonly supplemented form of Vitamin E.
The “D” denotes that this is a naturally-occurring form of Alpha-Tocopherol. This "natural" form of Vitamin E is more costly to isolate, concentrate, and manufacture than dl-Alpha-Tocopherol is to synthesize, and is therefore approximately twice as expensive as synthetic Vitamin E, but has 1.4 times more Vitamin E IU activity and is retained within the body far more efficiently than synthetic Vitamin E.
