Contraceptive Pill
Overview
The Contraceptive Pill is a group of patented medicines that consist of one or more synthetic forms of female sexual steroid hormones taken to prevent conception. Most Contraceptive pills contain synthetic Estrogens to block the normal process of ovulation and a Progestin (synthetic form of Progesterone) to block the normal control of the menstrual cycle. Contraceptive pills that lack a synthetic Estrogen and contain only a Progestin are known as Mini-Pills.
Toxic Effects of the Contraceptive Pill
Cardiovascular System
The Oral Contraceptive Pill may cause Hypertension due to the synthetic Estrogens and Progestins that are constituents of "the pill" increasing the body's production of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme which in excess can cause Hypertension by activating Angiotensin 2. [1]
The Contraceptive Pill may increase the risk of Stroke.
Immune System
The Contraceptive Pill may increase the risk of Breast Cancer as it depletes the body's supply of Folic Acid and increases the body's exposure to Estrogens:
