Respiratory System
Metaproterenol is often prescribed in the treatment of Asthma (due to its ability to induce (i.e. it dilates the Respiratory passages).
Experimental Usage of Metaproterenol
Musculoskeletal System
Metaproterenol (16 mg per day in divided doses) induces anabolic effects on the Muscles and is therefore under investigation as a means of stimulating Muscle Growth.
Toxic Effects of Metaproterenol
Cardiovascular System
Metaproterenol may cause Tachycardia (increased Heart rate).
Nervous System
Metaproterenol may cause Nausea.
Metaproterenol may cause Tremor.
Pharmaceutical Availability of Metaproterenol
A physician’s prescription is required for the procurement of Metaproterenol - it is supplied (under the names Alupent and Metaprel) as 0.65 mg/puff aerosol in 75 mg and 150 mg containers for inhalation by Asthma patients and also as 10 mg and 20 mg tablets.
