Acyclovir reduces the quantity of infectious Herpes Simplex Virus released from Herpes lesions.
Acyclovir achieves Herpes Virus symptom minimization by inhibiting the synthesis of Viral DNA within the Herpes Virus.
Acyclovir is effective against Herpes Simplex Virus Type I, Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 and (to a lesser extent) the Herpes Zoster Virus (the cause of Shingles).
