Vigabatrin is a type of Pharmaceutical Anticonvulsant (Antiepileptic Drug).
Conventional Medical Usage of Vigabatrin
Nervous System
Vigabatrin (3,000 mg per day) is used for the treatment of some types of Epilepsy (due to the ability of Vigabatrin to substitute for Gamma Aminobutyric Acid as the substrate for the GABA Transaminase enzyme): [1]
Vigabatrin is most useful for treating partial seizures such as Temporal Lobe Epilepsy.
Vigabatrin is also useful for the treatment of Infantile Spasms in children.
Vigabatrin is not usually used as a monotherapy - it is usually used in conjunction with other Antiepileptic Drugs.
