Testing Selenium Nutritional Status
Selenium can be measured in Plasma, Serum, Red Blood Cells or whole Blood. Alternatively, determination of Glutathione Peroxidase (an enzyme dependent upon Selenium) may be a useful indicator of possible Selenium deficiency.
Plasma Selenium
The standard reference range for Plasma Selenium varies between laboratories. The following are representative values:
0.45 - 1.40 mmol/L (s per liter)
0.75 – 1.35 mmol/L (Central Sydney Laboratory Service)
