Bacillus
Description
Bacillus are a genus of aerobic or facultatively anaerobic, sporeforming, ordinary motile Bacteria from the Bacillaceae family that contain Gram-positive rods. Bacillus are found primarily in soil.
Species of Bacillus
Bacillus amyloliquefaciens is present mainly in soil. It produces Subtilisin.
Bacillus anthracis is the cause of Anthrax.
Bacillus brevis is present in soil, air, dust, Milk and Cheese. Some strains of Bacillus brevis produce the Antibiotics Gramicidin or Tyrocidin.
