CYP2A6 is a type of Cytochrome P-450 Enzyme. It comprises approximately 4% of total Cytochrome P-450 enzyme activity.
Function of CYP2A6
Like all Cytochrome P-450 enzymes, CYP2A6 is responsible for the (Phase I) detoxification of various substances in the Liver. The following substances are acted upon by CYP2A6:
Alkaloids
Nicotine
Prescribed Medications
Ritonavir
These Substances may Inhibit the Activity of CYP2A6
